Annual Sweats for Vets

13th Annual Sweats for Vets Event

Veterans Hospital, Martinsburg, WVA

January 12, 2019

The Virginia Ancient Order of Hibernians, represented by both the State and the Col. Thomas J. Cunningham Jr. Division, Loudoun County VA, in conjunction with the VA Knights of Columbus, the VFW, and the newly formed LAOH Daughters of Erin Division (Loudoun, VA), presented on Saturday, January 12th , 585 new sweat outfits to the veteran residents located at the Martinsburg WVA Veterans Hospital.  With approximately 40 volunteers in attendance on the 13th anniversary of this event, the Knights of Columbus Color Guard from the Elizabeth Ann Seton Assembly #1781 opened the event followed by presentation of financial donations from the various organizations in the amount of approximately $2,000 to Hospital Director Tim Cook.   The Hibernians contributed $1,000 once again from the State and from the Division.  The funds are distributed by the hospital to needy veterans to aid in their respective purchases of sundry items within the facility.

With close to 500 men and women who have served our country in defense of our freedom in residence, all of the volunteers proceeded in providing to every veteran a new sweat outfit, along with socks, tee shirt and a toiletry bag.  Every veteran was greeted individually and “Thanked for Their Service!”  What a privilege it is for all involved to share stories and fraternity that day.  To a person, the Veterans truly appreciate this annual event – as for the volunteers, the day again makes for a lasting memory…..
