Brother Hibernians,
For those who weren’t able to make our January meeting, I was honored to be installed as Division President as part of this meeting. I’d like to thank you all again for your support and promise to continue the outstanding leadership that we’ve been blessed to have with all of our past presidents. I’d especially like to thank Dennis Corrigan for his leadership and guidance over the past two years.
One of the first duties that I had to complete as President was the submission of a quarterly report to our State Officers. While it didn’t seem to be an overly busy few months, looking back we had a pretty impressive amount of charitable activity and fraternity. To name a few, we co-sponsored our 9/11 Memorial Golf fundraiser with the Knights of Columbus from Our Lady of Hope Parish, had Half Way to St. Patrick’s Day/Raffle Drawing and Christmas Parties, helped wrap over 1300 sweat suits for Veterans and distributed funds to numerous charities both in Northern Virginia and Ireland. Please find this report as well as the minutes of our January meeting attached. I’m including these to help raise awareness around our Division activities with the hope that we can draw more members to our meetings and activities. If you haven’t been to a meeting in a while, this is a great time of year to come out and get involved!
So far this quarter, we’ve helped distribute Sweats for Vets at the Martinsburg VA Hospital, participated in two Pro-Life Events and held our 7th Annual Exceptional Irish Whiskey Tasting event to benefit the Arch Diocese of Military Services. Big thanks to Jay McCarthy and Mike Egan for their efforts in making this a huge success. I also encourage you to visit our Division website (aohloudoun.org) regularly for news on past events as well as schedules and info on upcoming activities.
We have our monthly general membership meeting this Wednesday 2/11, 7:30 at St. Theresa’s in Ashburn. Our primary focus this month with be on upcoming events. Over the next few months, we have two parades, two St Patrick’s parties, the Gaelic Mass, 40 Days for Life prayer vigil, a corporate Communion and ticket sales at multiple venues. This year we’re going to have to increase our ticket sales due to cost escalation with our Trip for Two to Ireland as well as the addition of two more Catholic schools to our scholarship grant program. March is our busiest month of the year and we’re encouraging all to get involved with these activities as well as help out with the raffle ticket sales. Hope you can make it.
